The only reason I read this book was because of the five stars it had. I have never seen a book with a perfect score before so I thought I needed to read it and see what all the hype was about. Going in I didn't really know what to expect because for me there really wasn't much in the synopsis. I LOVED IT!!!!!!!!!! It wasn't just another book about breaking up and having a summer fling. It's really about finding out who you are and what love really is. My favorite thing was it's not just a love story between a boy and girl but you see a family come so much closer. You see the love between sisters, between husband and wife. Between a father and a daughter. For me, that's what made the story. At times, it was a little to graphic for me, she could have totally toned down some of the scenes and gotten the point across. I almost stopped reading because of how graphic the scenes are. BUT I'm glad a continued. I do have to say that Judd's best friend (I think his name is Evan) he was my favorite character he is so funny. If she ever writes a book about him I will buy it in a heart beat. I will definitely read the second book.Product details

This reminds me so much of falling in love with my husband at 17, even though the circumstances are completely different. Wilson did a great job capturing the feeling of young love. The character dialogue is funny and natural. The love scenes are heated. However, it is a little awkward reading a love scene where the author doesn't name the body parts or actually state they are getting started. Don't be afraid to get a little raunchy in this business (entry is half the fun).
I wish they had warnings on books where parents die like they have for rape scenes. My father died of cancer, and this book ha me crying like a baby. I'm glad I hung in their an finished it. It was a great read.

About 2 people falling in love it's also a story that will pull you in and want to hold each family
Member that is dealing with the fathers cancer. Judd is the real hero to me. I would love a book 2 on Judd

Firstly, this is a well written book. I thought the author did an excellent job of portraying the youth and immaturity of high school to college kids. The heroine had her moments, for sure, and I thought around the 80% Mark, things were going to tidy together nicely...until the heroine does a complete 180 on her character and does something so off-line her...that I wanted to throw my kindle against the wall and whack her upside the head. The scene was so...over the top, and SO not needed in the story, that the last 20% of the book I really struggled with, and because the heroine acted the way she did, and there really was no groveling or apology on her part...that I felt the hero settled. I was left wanting something better than her for him.
Judd is the perfect book boyfriend. Big, tender, loving, forgiving, intense and honest.
Alyssa...is not. She's immature, emotionally stunted...and sometimes TSTL. Too much drama and "all about me", which is perfect for YA novels...if you have an older sister or bff to whack some sense into her. But she didn't, and she ran rampant over Judd and his feelings.
So while I couldn't put this down for most of the read, the last part just left me...wanting. something else ( like her groveling or some anger from Judd) for better resolution to their story.
Even though I enjoyed this story and thought it was well written there were a few things I really hate in books that made me deduct a few stars.
What I enjoyed
1. Judd - he was awesome!
2. The drama - loved it! The more drama, the better in my book. If you don't like drama or cheaters, this isn't the book for you.
What I really disliked (and these are personal preferences!)
1. Alyssa. She came across as kind of dumb and really oblivious to what was going on around her.
2. How disgustingly sugar-sweet Alyssa and Judd were together. It was nauseating! All the long looks, tender brushes of fingers on cheeks, sighs and heartfelt declarations of love got old really fast.
3. Giggles! Maybe the editor needs a thesaurus but I counted the word "giggle" 79 (SEVENTY-NINE!!!) times in this book! Seriously, do young adults really giggle that much? Oh wait, Alyssa's mom was a giggler too...
Even with all the things I didn't like I will still read another book by this author.
Not a bad start to a heartfelt story. The author has done a much better job of portraying Judd's character then Alyssa's which is surprising. Through the backdrop of two teenagers with very deep emotional wounds and trauma we are treated to an instant connection between them. Sadly, the author has concentrated the story more on their teenage hormones instead of the emotional angst that could have been so richly developed. Ms. Wilson almost completely ignored the deep emotions that Alyssa had to be feeling about her father' possible diagnosis and her boyfriend's betrayal. Instead we see her seem to sweep those emotions away like she was Scarlett O'Hara and she dives almost aggressively into a physical relationship witha Judd. . Only speaking for myself as I was as a teenager I cannot imagine all of those emotions being pushed aside quite so easily.
Regardless, the story is compelling and I could not put the book down. The author does need editing help with continuity, some missing prepositions, grammar and punctuation.
I am going to continue to read this series because I am interested in how the story evolves.
